RACE FOR THE CHECKERED FLAG. Data East Checkpoint full size Pinball machine in excellent 100% working condition. This game was manufactured in 1991 and was the very first pinball machine to feature a dot matrix display, and the first machine to feature Lasermatic speed detection (which awards higher points the faster the ball is shot up the ramp). The machine also has other notable features such as player selectable music, a shaker motor, a unique key shaped start button, and a spinning wheel back box animation. A very fun and challenging game with a classic Porsche auto racing theme and a easy to understand ruleset. More information on this machine can be found on the Internet Pinball Database (IPDB dot com). This machine is in excellent working condition with no mechanical or electrical issues. Overall, I would consider this game to be in very good condition, but it does have some minor cosmetic issues with the playfield. Perfect game for someone who does not mind a game with some genuine arcade wear, but, if you are looking for a perfect game, then this one is not for you. The machine has just recently shopped with amazing LEDs installed. All general illumination, back-glass and insert lights have been upgraded – which make the machine really pop! New rubber rings installed, playfield cleaned with Novus #2, all plastics (top and bottom) cleaned, all seven drop targets replaced with brand-new targets and decals, new shooter rod, plus brand-new pinballs. Game will come with locks and keys. All circuit boards, including CPU & Driver, Display, Sound, PPB, and Flipper PCBs were fully tested and were serviced as needed and are in full working condition. The 128×16 DMD Display is bright with no bad segments, and the stereo sound is crystal clear (rebuilt sound board). In addition, this game has been upgraded with Pinitech NVRAM, which forever eliminates the need to ever change CPU board mounted batteries ever again, and more importantly, will prevent future CPU damage from leaky batteries. Cabinet is in very good original condition overall. It has been drilled for a lockdown bar, it will have some minor bumps and bruises from being in an arcade in its earlier years. The playfield is in good, but not perfect condition, It has mylar, which as far as I can tell, appears to be factory installed. There is some wear and paint loss on areas outside of the mylared areas (see photos). The ramps have some slight cracking and chipping at the entrances and exits (typical for this game) which does not affect game play. All inserts are in excellent condition, the mirrored glass trans-light has great color with no flaking, and the back-box spinning wheel is fully functional. Overall a Great Machine and in perfect working order with LED and NVRAM upgrades! The perfect addition for your shop, garage or (wo)man cave.
