This is a vintage original 1979 Williams Flash Pinball Machine – physically and cosmetically it’s in good shape. The lights come on, but it won’t start a game. There are some external issues related to age, scrapes on the edges, a few spots of discoloration on the legs and in the paint on the sides, and a very small amount of scratches on the back glass. (Please see all photos). There are two locks with keys and the original instruction manual is also included. It lights up, but won’t start play. When it stopped working, a game had just finished (nothing out of the ordinary happened during the game) and it wouldn’t start the next game. Particulars on the Flash Pinball Machine. Originally presented in 1979 for four players the Flash Pinball Machine. Was designed by Steve Ritchie for Williams (Williams Electronics) and the Flash game is known for its many Firsts in the pinball world. From The Internet Pinball Database. >> Ball shot into play crosses the. To get to the top. >> Flash Lamps under. >> Maximum displayed point score is 999,990 points per player. Sound and Software by. Steve Ritchie: I’invented’ background sound at Atari, but management wouldn’t have it, so I asked Randy Pfeiffer to create a continuously cycling complex sound that increased in pitch and speed of cycling, and he did both. That changing background added a tension and excitement that was never present in earlier games. That sound also broadcasted how well the player was doing. If you heard the only game that made a background sound in an arcade at high pitch and a fast cycle, all eyes were on you, sometimes gathering a small crowd in those days. There were at least 4 more or less licensed versions around the globe – Zeus, Super-Zeus, Storm and Shock with identical artwork and the same playfield-design (sometimes missing some features). It’s quite possible that if these versions would be added into the production-run, FLASH could be the most-produced machine ever -topping Addams Family’s 21,270 units.
