This game works great. We have fully shopped it and replaced all of the rubber bands with new ones. We have also replaced all of the light bulbs with new Cointaker LEDs (the best you can get). There are just a handful of bulbs that are not cointaker but still LED, because the cointakers would not fit. But only a few. Every single bulb, switch, coil, target, display segment, sound effect, etc is working great. We replaced the MPU board with a new Rottendog MPU. The sound board is new. All of the other boards are original and working perfectly. This game has been in my Pinball Paradise playable pinball museum in central IL for about 3 years and had no problems at all other than one bumper not working for a while, which ended up just being a bad solder joint on the bumper driver board. A 2 minute repair. Otherwise, it has worked flawlessly for over 3 years with weekly play. NOTE: The displays all work perfectly and have no burns or flaws of any kind. The pictures unfortunately make it look like the displays are not working, because this darn iPhone doesn’t allow my to adjust the shutter speed. It is such a fast shutter speed that it catches the displays while drawing the digits and makes them look broken. Trust me, to the human eye, they look and function perfectly. If anyone knows how to adjust the shutter speed on an iPhone 12 please message me. We have of course completely shopped it after pulling it out of the museum last week, so it is playing about like new. This game really plays great, and has SO much to shoot for on the playfield. It has 2 banks of drop targets lower bank has new targets, and upper bank has original targets but I’m including all new ones if you want to change them. I didn’t want to because “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. There are 2 patented “vari-targets” well incorporated into the layout and rules. There are 4 flippers, some loop shots, several lanes, bumpers, slingshots, rollovers, saucers, etc… Just a really fun game with lots to do and a lot of challenge if you want to accomplish everything. Also, I need to emphasize just how HUGE this game is. Not only is it a wide-body, but it is also deeper / longer than most pinballs. It will stick out a little from the other pinballs in your line up because Gottlieb made these enormous. And it was well worth it, because they filled the playfield with a lot more artwork and things to shoot for. I really love these wide-bodies. I wish this became the standard size for pinballs. The game has a new ball and lock. The quarter coin mechs work so you can use it as a piggy bank if you wish. I should also mention that Star Race is one of the rarest Gottlieb games made. Very low production of 870 units. I have never seen another one and I have seen 10s of thousands of pinballs in the last 30 years. I don’t know where they all went, but they are not put up for sale very often I can tell you. One last thing to mention. The pinball has a solid steel plate bolted to the bottom of the game that completely covers the entire bottom of the game. This adds a lot of weight to the game. Because I’ve seen these on other Gottlieb widebodies just like this. It has a hole for the power switch. Here is a video I took showing that the game is fully working. CONDITION and RATINGS for THIS SPECIFIC MACHINE. The physical / cosmetic condition of this game is very good. It is not mint, but very good. The playfield does have some worn spots, but nothing very bad. It looks like there are a few areas that were touched up on the playfield but they look good to me and I’m not sure because it must have been before I got it. Overall, the playfield still looks very good in my opinion. The artwork is outstanding, and so vibrant that the few worn areas really don’t stand out at all. The plastics are all basically perfect. I can’t see any flaws or cracks or broken parts at all. The backglass looks very good, but definitely has some flaking. Fortunately the flaking is in the dark blue sections, which are sky/star areas so it doesn’t stand out badly and just looks like more stars. A lot better than if the girls were flaking badly which they are not. The cabinet is very nice and solid. The paint on the cabinet is all original – no touchup – and still is excellent. There are a few scratches and worn spots but not bad. The coin door is excellent, and has working coin mechs and original coin box. New LED bulbs to light the coin slots, and a new lock. It has been fully shopped with LED bulbs. If you need any more pictures or have any questions, please let me know – I’m happy to answer. PLAYFIELD PLASTICS: 9.5/10. COIN DOOR: 9.5/10. STANDARD GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SOLID STATE PINBALL SHOPPING. When we shop a solid state pinball, here is what that includes. 1 Removed most everything from the playfield. 2 Clean, wax, and polish entire playing surface. 3 Replace all above-playfield light bulbs with new LED bulbs. 4 Replace all below-playfield light bulbs with new LED matching colored bulbs. 5 Replace all rubbers with new ones. 6 Re-install all above playfield plastics and hardware after thorough cleaning. 7 Remove backglass, replace all bulbs with LEDs. 8 Make sure all features of pinball are working properly. 9 Scrub, clean, and touch up cabinet to the best of our limited ability. 10 Install new lock on front door. 11 Install new ball(s). THIS IS THE CLASSIC PINBALL MACHINE WITH A REALLY RACE CAR THEME. THIS GAME WAS TORN DOWN BY OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM OF TECHS, THE PLAYFIELD WAS CLEANED AND WAXED AND NEW BULBS AND RUBBERS WERE INSTALLED. THE PLAYFIELD IS A VERY NICE EXAMPLE, DISPLAYS VIBRANT ORIGINAL COLORS AND DOES SHOW THE NORMAL WEAR ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM A 47 YEAR OLD PIN. This is a 1991 Data East Checkpoint Pinball Machine in excellent condition. It was the first pinball machine made with a dot matrix display, as well as other features. The theme is auto/Porsche. It also has music selection prior to each game, first of its kind. I did all the restoration myself over a few years. Most of the playfield parts are original, cleaned and polished. Porsche matchbox toy is not original. Some custom stainless steel flashing added to ramp plastic. New half-height(16×128) LED dot display, no more high power board to deal with. 2 New Rotten Dog Boards — Power Board and Driver Board. Some lamps were replaced with LEDs. Newly painted legs, new adjustable feet, painted coin door, hinge & side rails. Painted backbox, added service decal on back box. New Checkpoint Vinyl Decals applied to the cabinet. RetroRefurb SideBlades(TM) Mountain Graphics inside cabinet. Backglass is in excellent condition, common lengthwise scratch from the rotating wheel screw-head middle/top. No acid damage on board, I did replace a few ICs on the MPU while troubleshooting when I first got it. The entire playfield was cleaned and restored. This playfield often has dried and flaked off paint on the top of the playfield from the lane light being on constantly on location. I cleaned up that, and repainted the top 25% of the playfield with HD decals, stencil and airbrush work. 4 coats of clear coat were applied and polished. See detailed pictures – the work is excellent and durable. See videos of machine operation below. Room lights on and off. “Road Race” Pinball Machine built by Gottlieb in 1969 and rated a respectable 6.9 on the Internet Pinball Data Base. Total production was 1425 units. The machine’s overall condition is very good. A new rubber kit (installed), ball, and wiring diagram are included. All plastics are good with no chips or cracks. The machine is ready to plug in and play, all circuits are 100% operational. Two coin acceptors (25 cents) are installed and operational. The original metal back door is installed. The cabinet exterior paint job is OK, but not great. I place mine in the middle of the pack and feel the thing that makes my machine distinctive is the superior mechanical condition. I have played many games on this machine to ensure 100% operation of every light, every switch, every score reel, every roll over. Very solid 1949 Bally Citation one ball horse race pinball machine. This one ball was the last model produced by bally in the decade ending in 1950. This model was a gambling game which had been extremely popular for many years. It has all the features that had came about over the 15-20 year span of the one ball production. Their are many ways to win. It is a fast action fun game to play. You can build your odds and or features in order to increase the pay out. The payout was done over the counter by the games replay meter just as the bingo pinball games of the 1950s. The machine is in good working order, it has been maintained and played regularly in our home for about ten years. All features work and the game operates on coins (nickels). The cabinet is in very good original condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are nicks and marks but the paint is all original with no touch ups. The back glass is in very good condition , with a few very minor flakes. The play field is in near mint condition, with little or no wear. The cabinet is painted in a classic racing theme, a real work of art. This one ball is ready to plug in and play in your home, and should give many years of enjoyment. The schematic and other paperwork from bally is included. 70 miles west of the Washington DC/Balt Md area, 1 mile off exit 13 on interstate I-81 Martinsburg WV.
