1976 Gottlieb Canada Dry 4-Plyr Pinball Machine FULLY RESTORED & FULLY WORKING
1976 Gottlieb Canada Dry 4-Player Pinball Machine. Here’s one for the collectors! But if you’re not really a “collector” but are looking for a VERY fun and challenging pinball machine for the whole family to enjoy, you’ve come to the right place. Canada Dry is a FUN machine to play. If you’re a collector, you probably already know all about this machine. The story goes that it was produced by Gottlieb exclusively for export to France where the soft drink company Canada Dry sponsored a pinball tournament. Although historical production numbers show that 2885 of these machines were made, they are V-E-R-Y hard to find, at least in the USA. Who knows what happened to them all once the tournament was finished. Knowing how hard they can be to find in the USA, I have no doubt that almost all, if not all of them were exported to France after being made. If you like the mid-70’s Gottlieb machines, then you know this playfield layout! It was so popular and fun to play, it was used on a BUNCH of different Gottlieb machines including Gold Strike, Lucky Strike, El Dorado, Solar City, and Target Alpha. If you love drop targets like I do, this is the machine for you! It features a total of fifteen drop targets , with ten across the very top and another five on the right side. Your skill shots will definitely be tested as you try to knock down all fifteen in order to win a replay and have more chances to rack up additional replays. As an added benefit over the other machines in this lineup (other than Target Alpha,) Canada Dry is a four-player machine, so head-to-head competition is possible! Along with the other machines that feature this basic playfield layout, they are probably my favorites to play from this era. It also offers a nice theme and VERY colorful graphics EVERYWHERE on the backglass, playfield, plastics, and cabinet sides. But make sure you keep reading because it gets even better! This specific Canada Dry machine has been F-U-L-L-Y restored both mechanically AND cosmetically! The backglass is as close to mint as you could ever hope to find, the cabinet has been repainted in the exact factory colors and design, and maybe best of all, the playfield started as NOS and has been clearcoated! It will be nearly impossible to find even a minor flaw on this playfield! Overall, this may be the best looking Canada Dry machine in existence, without exaggeration. If Canada Dry is a machine that has been eluding you, will finish your collection, or take you another step closer, don’t miss out on this one! And on top of all that, get it home, plug it in, and PLAY while displaying it in the most prominent spot in your home because it looks that good! Although this machine is technically mechanically unshopped by me, other than having all of the bad bulbs replaced, it is working GREAT! Get it home, plug it in and play without having to do much, if any, mechanical work. Because it only gets limited use from me (the main reason that I have decided to try and sell it,) there may be an OCCASIONAL minor glitch like a target not registering, a bell not ringing, etc. But those occurrences are very minor and most likely will resolve themselves as you play the machine on a regular basis, unlike me. All four players are working well, there is FAST action on the playfield, the flippers are STRONG, and this is a FUN machine to play! No disappointments in this machine in ANY way! The original backglass is in NEAR MINT condition with only a few pin-prick sized spots along the far outside edges and in the lower right corner. If I was to ask you to find an imperfection when looking at the front of this glass, I can assure you that you would come up empty. It is as close to perfect as you could hope to find, and when looking at it while playing the machine, you will say that it is perfect. They ONLY way to see the VERY minor imperfections is to look at the backside of the glass up against a light source. Otherwise, this is as close to PERFECT as possible with GREAT colors and graphics. This is an EXTREMELY nice looking backglass, JUST short of perfect. All of the colors are VERY bright and strong with no sign of any fading. There are a LOT of graphics with a buxom girl playing a Canada Dry pinball machine in the lower left corner, Canada Dry logos and soda bottles EVERYWHERE including a blimp at the top, and even a couple guys riding motorcycles in the lower portion. Although this glass is JUST short of perfect, no disappointments here, it looks great and presents itself as perfect. The playfield paint, again, is also as close to perfect as you will ever see. If I say that it is perfect, Im sure with a very thorough inspection someone could find a minor flaw here or there so I wont call it that, but it is perfect As I said, it started as NOS and got better from there with a FANTASTIC clearcoat finish applied. HSA applied the clearcoat finish, their logo is in place on the lower left corner of the playfield under the bottom metal apron. GREAT colors, GREAT shine, and GREAT smoothness. You wont find a better one. Similar to the backglass, there are SO many different colors and graphics on this playfield! There are Canada Dry bottles and coloring everywhere! No disappointments with this playfield, either. All of the playfield plastics, plastic rollover guides, pop bumpers and caps, flippers, drop targets with correct Canada Dry and Drink graphics, EVERYTHING, on this playfield looks and shines like new. The lower metal playfield apron is in excellent shape with only a couple minor scratches in the painted surface. Notice that it includes a reference to inserting a French Franc in order to play! There are also original instruction and score cards, in near perfect condition, on the apron. Playfield features include three rollover lanes in the upper right corner, ten drop targets spaced across the top, a single rollover lane on the upper left side, a single flipper just to the right side of that, two round pop bumpers, another single flipper on the right side of the upper playfield, two rollover lanes to the right of it, another set of five drop targets on the middle right side, two single paddle targets on the left side, a set of two rollover lanes on each side of the two lower flippers, and various other rubber contact points that award scoring. This is a FUN playfield layout with lots of action, fast play, and strong flippers. If you love drop targets like me, this is THE machine for you! Completing the ten top drop targets lights the right extra ball (same player shoots again) and special rollover. Completing the right side set of five drop targets lights the left extra ball rollover. You can only gain one extra ball during each ball in play. Bonuses are scored and features reset after each ball. This rule varies slightly from the one player machines that used this layout. You can win replays for achieving certain scoring levels as well as for matching your last two score digits to a random pair of numbers that lights on the backglass at the end of each game. The cabinet has been repainted in the original design and colors and looks OUTSTANDING! There are a few of the typical VERY minor nicks and scratches just from moving the machine around, but nothing terrible. Similar to the backglass and playfield, if you want to find an imperfection, Im sure you will, but otherwise, unless youre looking for a blemish, youll swear the cabinet is perfect, too. The coin door and entry plate are in very nice shape with only a few minor scratches and surface rust that should all buff out. Another interesting fact (at least to me) that references the intended exportation of these machines is that etched into the surface of the coin entry plate is the wording Manufactured for Mondial exclusively for Export. ” The plastic coin entry window also says “1 Franc and the backside of the door even includes a French Franc coin mech! You could easily swap that out for an American quarter mech if you wanted, but at this time, the machine is set on free play anyway, so no harm, no foul. It would be easy to convert it back to coin play, though, if you wanted since all mechanical and electrical features are still in place. There are locks/keys in place for the coin door as well as for the original metal backbox door. The four chrome legs are new reproductions as are the four leg levelers and all eight leg bolts. The threaded metal backing plate inside the cabinet for one set of the back leg bolts has stripped threads so those two bolts have a locking nut on them inside of the cabinet. The result is a sturdy cabinet. I have a new threaded plate that I will include with the machine, though, so if you want to swap it out and eliminate the nuts, you will be able. The playfield glass is also NEW and is also nearly perfect! My preference is to work with a company that provides door to door service which handles all of the wrapping, loading, and hauling. If you’re a “player” and want a fun and nice looking machine to play, this one can fit that need. But if you’re a collector, you know how difficult it can be to find this machine in any condition, let alone with nice overall cosmetics. This machine doesnt just have nice overall cosmetics, though, it is NEAR MINT cosmetically. And is FULLY working! You can prominently display this machine anywhere in your home because it looks that good! I can GUARANTEE that it will get a lot of continuous play because it is REALLY fun to play, ESPECIALLY when competing during FOUR PLAYER games! It is a GREAT machine and playfield layout to play, as evidenced by how many other machines Gottlieb manufactured with this basic layout, only changing the graphics! When you have other people over, especially collectors who appreciate what it is, I can also guarantee that everyone will be drawn to it! This machine is getting nearly impossible to find in the USA so this is a great opportunity to add a very collectible machine to your gameroom while you can! And remember, this may just be the BEST looking Canada Dry machine on the planet!
